Then, let’s fast forward to today. I go in because my tonsils are extremely swollen and hurting to the point that I am in tears.. and because I did not test positive for strep throat Joyce Skinner told me there was nothing she could do for me. Mind you, I was in literal tears. She then had the audacity to make me feel like I was fishing for drugs and that I was not actually sick. .... someone please tell me what I am going to do with antibiotics as a recreational drug... please. I could honestly write a book about my visit today and the level of disrespect that I experienced. The only good part was the nurse, who I had wished I had gotten her name. She came back into the room to talk to me and try to help. Still... no help from Joyce. Instead of Joyce trying to help me I had to sit there and listen to her go on a tangent about how she had been in the medical field for 37 years and blah blah blah. Absolutely nothing to do with my current situation. Please stay far away from Norris health center. They are not there to actually help students. I also noticed a comment below where a girl mentioned that she heard staff gossiping about patients. This is absolutely true. I was baffled today when I heard some of the things staff were saying about patients. Norris needs to be shut down.
I heard some of the staff making fun of patients and sharing inappropriate comments about other staff. I also heard them talking about me while I was in the waiting room. They must have forgotten I was there because I was waiting for 40 mins. Even with an appointment ...
I should have checked this review before. Yes, It's absolutely not a good choice if you really need a help. Actually, if you are student of color, have not fluent speaking ability, no perfect accent, do not go there. One of staff member, mid-aged woman nurse or counselor (or just administrator whatever... I didn't know her exact position) gonna judge you by its cover, and then treat you like you are nothing, or idiot. I was so embarrassed the way she treated patient like me. I'm also student of color, and it's been a just 4 months since I have started my program here at UWM. At the first one of two times, I didn't understand her questions just because of medical words that I was not familiar with. She think I can't speak English and then start to complain to herself, which is not true. It's her job to help patient and then if the patient comes with lack of medical information, then it's her job to explain it to the patient. UWM has a lot of diversities. People comes from everywhere. It's your job to help and explain something with medical appointment not just complain or show inappropriate attitude toward students/patients. I went there because it's in the school, which means more accessible then other hospitals for international students like me. It's not her responsibility or job to criticize the lack of medical information, or lack of fluency of speaking English. It's totally disrespectful. If you are a international students, don' go there, she is going to treat you like you don't know nothing at all. Even though NP was nice, I didn't want to go there again just because of that staff member.
Service time sucks only one there and had to wait over 100 minutes to just be seen. This place needs to be shut down.
Norris Health Center is an on campus facility designed for UWM students who do not have a primary care doctor in the area. The receptionists are unfriendly, there is usually a 30 min or longer wait time, and the doctors often misdiagnose patients due to lack of resources and or knowledge. I know multiple students who were told they had conditions they did not have/been told to go home when they were very sick. I've gone to Norris multiple times for strep/UTI's/pulled muscles and Joyce Skinner (who I always seem to get) is probably one of the unfriendliest doctors alive. I remember one specific time I was feeling extremely sick and she harassed me for 15 min over the fact that I was crying, "crying doesn't get you an excuse note". The only reason I gave them a star is because they have a very convenient pharmacy that has OTC medication for much cheaper than a Walgreens or CVS. If I could give a lower rating, I would. Again, this clinic is only accessible to UWM students. PS: it absolutely does NOT matter if you have an appointment or if you are a walk-in, you WILL wait forever.
STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. A couple years ago I went in to get tested for a virus because I was extremely sick. They tested me and told me that everything came back negative so therefore there was nothing they could do for me. They called me a WEEK later to “apologize” and said that someone had hole punched through my test results and that I actually tested positive for pneumonia. So as it turns out I had to fight pneumonia for a week straight with NO medication because of these people.
