The owner was trying to flirt with me and he offered to buy me a drink and after I refused his drink. He then kicked me and friends out of the club after we refused his drinks. Spills all over floor, and it had a weird smell. Don't come to this place alone or the owner will pounce on you like a predator. Luckily my friends had my back. He could have did anything to those drinks had we accepted them.
Agreed with the guy who said this place seems to be on the verge of dying. Kind of sad really. I've been going there a handful of times for every year since about 2006 now (10 years). I've never seen the place so dead in that time. I returned a couple weeks ago and went again last night and there was little to anyone there. A lot of the guys were overweight and unattractive who look like they don't take care of themselves were the only individuals in attendance. Albeit, I never was really crazy about the selection at La Cage as I'm relationship-oriented and more conservative in my style and the place only seems to attract the typical promiscuous younger guys or older predators in 50s or 60s seeking young. It also attracts people already in a relationships and just showing off themselves or looking to cheat. That said, it was probably the best outlet in Milwaukee for gays to go for life, energy, dance and music. However, I got on the dance floor with my friend last night and realized we were few of anyone on the dance floor because the attendance was so low. Maybe they finally turned everyone off with that damn payment they demand, something that always bothered me about this place. I never liked having to pay to get in. Moreover, last night was a disaster in how they made us get in through going outside and exiting various doors, switching entrances and exists up while having to wait in line in the frigid cold for security checks. People also might not like that whole new complicated entrance system, which got real ratchet last night. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. The place never attracted any quality relationship-material, down-to-earth guys my age (30 here), just diva queens so it's nice that it's fazing out and hopefully something new and improved will hit Milwaukee's gay community. As of right now, rely on the web to find your Mr Right. The clubs and bars were always useless in this department.
Loved the drag show, cheap cover, decent priced beers. Had lots of fun.
Mike is such a great bartender. He not only knows the buildings history but can tell you everything about La Cage history. This place is full of history. If you want to learn the history ask for Mike. His D A B O M B!!
Upstairs drag show is fun, fairly traditional and not as boundary pushing as the shows at DIX. Downstairs dance area is something to experience. The dress code, cover charge and no bag policy is annoying.
